Time warp.

There was a time when the thought of the 90s made me cringe. Hitting my teen prime square in the middle of the decade left a funny taste in my mouth for all things 90s. I was a bonafide mall rat & fully embraced every awful trend. Metallic pleather, yep. Shiny stretchy shirts, you bet. Chunky shoes, couldn't get enough. Itty bitty lunch box purses, pretty sure I had 3 of them. Point is - to use a term I really hate - I was a bit of a fashion victim. On into adulthood I was left thinking there wasn't a single redeeming quality for gen-x. Now that I've had a little time to cool off, I'm fully embracing the better sartorial qualities of the 90s. Leather jackets, florals, boyfriend jeans, a few grungy touches here and there and yes, some how, even crop tops are all feeling just right - for now.

Brooklyn House Snooping

Don't you love a good snoop? Maybe it falls in the grey area, ethically speaking, but I just love poking around in people's homes. Nothing too nosey, but it's just fascinating to see how other people live their lives. "Ohhh, I use that toothpaste too!" "What!? I didn't know they collected velvet paintings!" "Nice thread count." Ok, well maybe I'm a creep, but I don't think I'm alone in that boat, because in January of 1978 photographer Dinanda H. Nooney began a year long process of capturing Brooklynites in their homes. Lucky for us snoops, her collection of over 500 of her previously unseen photos, aptly dubbed The Nooney Brooklyn Photographs, have been published in the New York Public Library's digital collections.

Kahlo's Closet

I've always wanted to see Mexico City -- for all sorts of reasons: food, architecture, art, food and, yeah a bit more food. When doing a little imaginary traveling (bless the internet) I discovered Frida Kahlo's closet will be on display through the end of November & now I'm itching to get down there eve more!

"When [Kahlo] died, her husband, Diego Rivera, ordered her cloths be locked up for 15 years. When Diego passed three years later, a philanthropist  art collector and old friend of the couple, Delores Olmedo became the manager of their homes. She kept all of Kahlo's belongings guarded under lock and key for decades until she too passed away in 2004 and the fashion time capsule of an icon; a treasure chest, was finally unlocked." The Little Black Dress

Rainy Day

It's a dreary, rainy day in Austin & I love it. Nothing makes me happier than a grey, rainy day. A day to curl up & read books, a day to go to the movies, eat pho, fall down internet holes, snuggle, catch up, make long phone calls... Rainy days are the best.

Sneak Peek: T Shirts

I think t-shirts are the hardest vintage item to get right. Of course every store sporting a vintage sign across the country has them, but more often that not they're too silly, too over the top, or not even vintage to begin with. That's not to say I don't adore a perfect vintage tee. There's nothing stronger than the allure of thin, soft cotton. And not a damn thing feels better to throw on. Seriously.
