Time warp.

There was a time when the thought of the 90s made me cringe. Hitting my teen prime square in the middle of the decade left a funny taste in my mouth for all things 90s. I was a bonafide mall rat & fully embraced every awful trend. Metallic pleather, yep. Shiny stretchy shirts, you bet. Chunky shoes, couldn't get enough. Itty bitty lunch box purses, pretty sure I had 3 of them. Point is - to use a term I really hate - I was a bit of a fashion victim. On into adulthood I was left thinking there wasn't a single redeeming quality for gen-x. Now that I've had a little time to cool off, I'm fully embracing the better sartorial qualities of the 90s. Leather jackets, florals, boyfriend jeans, a few grungy touches here and there and yes, some how, even crop tops are all feeling just right - for now.

Remembering Frida

I'm a huge Frida fan so when I was asked if I had anything in the shop that might fit the mood of a Frida inspired shoot for Vetta Magazine, a newly launched Austin publication, I flipped! Rich colors, smoldering brows, eclectic jewelry, florals, men's wear nods -- stylist Graham Cumberbatch nailed it. Various Tiro Tiro pieces, the classic Miranda Bennett Every Day dress, a pretty Lee Coren scarf, Sister necklaces, a biggie Ilana Kohn tee & my favorite Feral Childe shirt all made an appearance. Westminster x Vogue

True, we're in the heart of Fashion Week, but that's not the only goings on in New York. Westminster Kennel Club just wrapped across town. Vogue photographer PHilip Johnson popped over to document these pups at their peek. Vogue teamed their favorite fashion quotes up with each photo & there are some pretty great ones -- my favorite's above. Pop on over to see the rest!

Nothing's new.

It's a dreary, rainy afternoon at the shop and I'm sitting on the front porch enjoying the unusually cool weather. I'm also enjoying my new discovery: Part Nouveau. I've been clicking through this gorgeous study of a blog all afternoon. I love seeing art and fashion history quote itself. All of fashion photography's favorites - Bourdin, Newton, Penn - appear and reappear, but fashion's intersection with fine art and film - Hitchcock, Warhol, Magritte -  is well represented too. I guess there really are no new ideas.

Closet Visit

Boy am I glad to see Closet Visit back! After a brief (ok, it felt like forever) hiatus, Jeana Sohn's back behind the camera and I couldn't be happier. Her beautiful blog satisfies my sartorial lust & voyeuristic tendencies in one fell swoop. Vena Cava's Sophie Buhai kicks off Sohn's new content, but her archives hold glimpses into the closets of Dream Collective's Kathryn Bentley, Jesse Kamm, Refinery 29s Brenda Egan, Clare Vivier and loads more fashion ladies you probably have a style crush on. I know I do.
