Casa Azul

Don't you love it when someone's physical space reflects them just perfectly? I can't say I didn't expect it, but in visiting Casa Azul I was just floored at how effortlessly this space embodied its infamous inhabitants: Diego Rivera & Freda Kahlo. Washed in the most gorgeous shade of blue, almost a Yves Klein blue but somehow better, the airy home is smattered with remnants of a life well lived. Frida's paint brushes, photographs of important moments, old letters, paintings collected from friends, a cheery yellow kitchen still stocked with pottery, well-worn furniture and of course Kahlo's incredible wardrobe. Hand embroidered dresses, impeccable jewelry, cigarette cases, little cat eyed sunglasses & every gorgeous color under the sun stocked her closet. Photographs weren't technically allowed inside, but I just couldn't resist snapping a few quick ones of her collection (that turquoise yin yang bib necklace, ack!). Kahlo was born, raised & died at Casa Azul & it still feels as if she might be sitting in her studio there cranking out work or reading a book in the lush garden. It's a special place without a doubt.

Powder Blue

Powder blue's been on my mind as of late. It's such a flattering shade. Weren't we all in love with Liv Tyler's perfect angora? I know I was.

Nemadji Pottery

Stumbled across these beauties on Miss Moss & promptly fell down an internet wormhole full of gorgeous pottery. All those perfectly imperfect color swirls, simple shapes, and rusty tera cotta just scream Native American - but they aren't. These gems are a Minnesotan take on the look.

Nemadji pottery company began manufacturing this colorful swirled potter in 1929 & promoted it as "Indian inspired." Over the years, advertising became truth in the minds of many, leading to mistaken claims over authentic Native American pottery.

Looks like I've got something new to collect on my hands! Ebay & Etsy have plenty to go around, they're surprisingly affordable & I'm such a sucker for pops of color around the house, so why not, right?

Red or pink?

I've always reached for a bright orange-red when I was to dress it up a bit but lately I'm finding myself lusting after a killer bright pink. What's your favorite swipe of color?

Afternoon Treat: Pretty Colors!

I just stumbled across this great tumblr, pretty colors, and it's full of, well, pretty colors! These are some of my favorites: #ffb607, #8c2c00, #ff7070, #0eff76, #d6fff7, #1b2b00. I'm a sucker for warm ochers and golds and airy blues.

Pretty in Pink

I've always wanted to sport bright slacks but am just to chicken. I stumbled on a killer bright marigold pair of trousers that fight like a glove on my last thrifting venture, but I didn't have the guts to grab them. What do you guys think? Brights on the bottom, would you do it?
