Denim

I spent a better part of the evening clicking through the Sartorialist last night & something about these two images just stuck with me. I'm definitely a jeans & t-shirt gal, so naturally they popped to me. There's something so democratic, so seasonless, effortless, timeless about denim. Perfect for spring with a little eyelet tank & iced coffee or layered up under a blue velvet blazer (!).

Compare is despair.

"I just think it’s important to be happy and positive. And also compare is despair, 100%. Don’t get all psycho about what other people are doing. Everybody does it, we’ve all had our moments on models.com. But you just wasted half and hour staring at them, when you could have been a) having fun b) dancing to music c) cleaning your bathroom. There’s so many other things. We’ve all done it, but just don’t. Stop it. Slap, slap yourself. Shut your hand in your computer. That’s what you should do. Step away from the technology."

Makeup artist, Alice Lane seems like such a sweetheart, doesn't she? Read her full interview with Garance here.

Peonies, Road Trips & Matchbooks

I've always been a big fan of Kate Spade's "Things We Love," a page dedicated to all things wonderful. Think, David Hockney paintings, vintage matchbooks, glitter, Vince Guaraldi, photobooth snaps & Ladurée macaroons - I'm with Kate on all of these goodies. Happily, "Things We Love" has recently been published in book form. Unhappily, it is not available for purchase. Let the waiting game begin...

Thrift America

So excited about Thrift America, Alexa Chung's new show on PBS! The Times describes it as “Antiques Roadshow meets the foodie romp Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations," both of which I love to pieces. I'd tune in to watch Alexa rummage through thrift shops & yard sales, how about you guys?

Sweater Girl

Lara Stone snuggled up in these cozy knits makes me want to snag a baggy sweater from my hubby and go for a brisk walk on the beach. Too bad the beach is 1,500 miles away.

Happy Weekend: After Hours

I'm hoping my weekend looks something like this. Granted Jessica Stam's amazing cat eyes and perfect pout might not make it my way this weekend, but sleepy patches of sun, stacks of books, and snuggling with the cat dog, sounds perfect!

Crash Pad

Wouldn't you love to spend a rainy afternoon snuggled in this room with a good book? Guess I should start prowling house wears at the thrift store too...

Birthday Girls

The stars must line up in some strange way on this date because two of my favorite style icons are both celebrating a birthday today, Alexa Chung & Tilda Swinton. HBD, ladies.

Counrtyside Charm

How gorgeous are Bruce Webber's shots of Stella McCartney's English countryside estate from this month's Vogue? I guess it helps that her estate is pretty breathtaking. Check out the rest of the photos here. I've always been a sucker for the country; rolling hills, expanses, tall grass, horses, ponds, it's the best.

Sweater Weather

Today was the first day in Texas that could be considered chilly by any reasonable standards. It never broke 55° F, which is pretty brisk I'd say. Finally it's cool enough to snuggle up in cozy sweaters!

Last Minute Halloween: Elaine Benes

We all caught that Gawker article, right? You know, the one that said the Elaine look, that is the slouchy, blazered, socks 'n' loafers, ankle grazing skirts & big hair look, is back. Well if they're correct you must have all those duds in your closet already, no? So scrunch up your hair, the bigger the better, toss on a long floral dress & slip into your best pair of oxfords & you're got the perfect last minute costume! Bonus points for a chompin on big fat cigar, toting a J. Peterman catalog, & doing the Elaine dance.

Last Minute Halloween: Cher Horowitz

Did you lust after Cher's crazy wardrobe software as much as I did? How amazing would it be to flip through your laptop to pick an outfit?! Cher was so before her time. So maybe you don't have crazy outfit curating computer programs, a personal masseuse, or an A-what-ah ... I mean an Alaia but you can easily channel Cher for Halloween. Break out that 90s school-girl plaid that's been lurking in your closet & toss on a fuzzy angora sweater & knee socks. Or shimmy into a dress so tight only Calvin Klein would claim it. Bonus points for French manicured acrylics, neon green gum, a flip phone & shopping bags!
